Eagles Look To Bounce Back Against Conference-Leading Buffs

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian (14-9, 10-5) will host conference-leading West Texas (20-1, 12-0) at Tom Heath Field for a three-game series.

What To Know About The Eagles 

  • Head Coach Shalee Rodriguez is entering her 3rd season at the helm for the Eagles. Coming into this season, Rodriguez holds an overall record of 77-32.

  • Last season, the Eagles finished with an overall record of 38-17 and a 29-13 conference record.

  • The Eagles fell short in the Lone Star Conference Championship, losing to UT Tyler 4-3. 

  • In the NCAA South Central Regional championship, OC battled with UT Tyler before the Patriots won to end the season.

  • The Eagles have three batters hitting over .300, with Kadence Brewster leading the way. Brewster is hitting a .348, and in 69 at-bats, she has recorded 24 hits with 9 RBIs, 2 home runs, and scoring herself 11 times. 

  • Aaliyah Brown has the hot bat in conference play, up to a .317 hitting percentage, with 19 hits in 60 at-bats. Brown has 5 doubles, 2 home runs, and 12 RBIs.

  • Head coach Michael Mook took over the Buffs softball program in June of 2019 and has made a big impact, leading the Buffs to a national championship in 2021. 

  • As a team, West Texas A&M currently leads the LSC in every category and has several individuals also leading in their own right. 

  • 3 of the top 4 hitters in the conference currently are on the West Texas roster, including Diana Murtha, who currently holds an unbelievable .612 hitting percentage. Murtha has 30 hits in 49 at-bats, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, 31 RBIs, and has crossed home herself 34 times. Murtha leads the LSC in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, OPS, runs scored, doubles, and walks. 

  • Lauren Granger is also having an impressive season at the plate with a .513 hitting percentage, with 34 hits in 60 at-bats, 11 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, and 14 RBIs. 

  • The 3-headed hitting monster is rounded out by Brittni Rufus, who is hitting .486 with 36 hits in 74 at bats 1 double, 3 triples, 2 home runs, and 15 RBIs. 

  • West Texas ace pitcher Heidi Vortherms is currently ranked 2nd in the conference with a 1.20 ERA, with a record of 11-0 and 82 strikeouts. 

Last Years Matchup 

West Texas won the series in Canyon, Texas, taking the last two games over the OC. 

The Eagles got revenge in the conference tournament, beating the Buffs in the semifinals 9-0.
