EDMOND, Okla. - Before turning the page to conference action, the Oklahoma Christian men's basketball program will play its final home game against a non-conference opponent Friday, Nov. 22 when East Central comes to the Payne Athletic Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (2-1, 0-0 LSC)
The last time out on the court, Oklahoma Christian dominated Randall to the tune of 106-77. The opening half saw OC outscore RU, 61-32, behind a 60.0 percent (24-of-40) field-goal percentage, including shooting 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from three-point range. The Eagles dominated in the paint Saturday evening, outscoring the Saints, 64-28.
Senior transfer
Keyondre Young secured a collegiate career-high 27 points. The former Oklahoma high school standout went a perfect 5-for-5 from deep to aid his game-high total while also pulling down nine rebounds, three of which were on the offensive glass.
Tyrus Baynham also saw an efficient 15 points on 10 shots, converting seven of them while backing up Young with eight boards.
Through the first three games of the season, Oklahoma Christian is shooting 50 percent from the floor while holding opponents to 40.7 percent shooting, both of which are second and fourth in the conference, respectively. The Eagles also lead the league in combined opponent rebounds at 28.0 per contest, though much of that comes from OC's concerted effort on the defensive glass as it is 15th in the conference with just 10 offensive boards per game.
Oklahoma Christian leads the all-time series against East Central, 13-9, but lost last year's meeting in Ada, Okla., 70-61. The Eagles have not lost to the Tigers on their own home floor since 1989, with the program's having only played three times since then. In last year's loss to the orange-and-black, OC shot just 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the floor, including 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from long range.   Â
SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL (2-2, 0-0 GAC)
After starting out the year 0-2, East Central has won its last two contests by an average of 25.5 points. This season, the Tigers are 1-2 away from Kerr Activities Center, though both losses have come by single digits, including a triple-overtime loss against Minot State, 108-99. In ECU's lone win away from home, the Tigers shot 50.0 percent (30-of-60) from the floor while holding Mississippi College to just 34.9 percent (22-of-63) shooting.
As a team, East Central is averaging 78.8 points per game while holding opponents 69.8 points. Oklahoma Christian is scoring 81.3 points per game. Individually, sophomore forward Nikk Williams is averaging a team-high 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Through four games, the Tigers have been led by their back court as fellow forward Bishop Jones backs up Williams with 14.0 points per game and shooting a team-high 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the floor.
