EDMOND, Okla. - For the first time in Oklahoma Christian women's volleyball program history, the Eagles will head to Alpine, Texas, to take on Lone Star Conference newcomer Sul Ross State Saturday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m.
EAGLE OUTLOOK
Oklahoma Christian played its first home match of the 2024 season last time out on the floor, falling to No. 9 West Texas A&M, 3-1. During the 2024 home debut, OC won just its second ever set against the perennial powerhouse Lady Buffs in what was the fifth all-time meeting. In that historic set, the Eagles hit .400, which is the highest single-set attack percentage in an LSC match OC has posted since the opening frame against Texas A&M-Kingsville Oct. 7, 2023.
After posting a season-high 10 kills in Oklahoma Christian's win over St. Edward's last week, senior transfer outside hitter
Avery Cole matched that with another 10-kill outing while hitting a team-high .500 among players with at least 10 total attacks. Cole's 20 kills in the last two matches is the third most on the team during that span.
Reigning Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week
Chloe Jones delivered her third consecutive double-digit kill outing while hitting .200 or better for the sixth straight match. As of Friday, Oct. 11, Jones is leading the Lone Star Conference among players with at least 500 total attacks with a .246 hitting percentage. The Waukee, Iowa, native is also 12th in the league with 3.21 kills per set.
The Eagles' defense is fourth in the conference with 2.10 blocks per set, led by
Camryn McGough, who is seventh in the league with 0.93 blocks per set. Sul Ross comes into Saturday's match allowing sixth most blocks in the LSC with 1.91 rejections per set while the Lobos themselves are seeing just 0.79 blocks per set.
SCOUTING SUL ROSS STATE
In its first year in the Lone Star Conference, Sul Ross Sate is 1-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Lobos won their first ever LSC match against St. Edwards at home, 3-1, despite dropping their opening set, 25-23. Since then, SRSU has not won a set, scoring just 20 points in a single stanza once during that time.
Offensively, Sul Ross is led by sophomore Natalie Hernandez, who is 16th in the conference with 3.09 kills per set. In the Lobos' win against SEU, Hernandez had a match-high 19 kills. As a team, SRSU is 17th in the league with 9.85 kills per set while also being 17th in allowing 14.71 kills per set to opponents.
