TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian's cross country teams opened their season with the Rogers State Distance After Dark late last night at Mohawks Sports Park.
Women's 3-mile
Oklahoma Christian traveled to Tulsa for the Rogers State Distance After Dark to open their season with a 3-mile race at the Mohawk Sports Complex.
The Eagles impressed in their opening showing of the season, finishing 4th overall as a team. Newcomer Andrea Garcia Gomez showed her talent by finishing 8th overall as an individual with a team-best of 17:43.7 for the 3-mile race.
The race began with a large pack of Eagles all running together. The group, consisting of Garcia Gomez,
Jacinda Kwambai, freshman
Itzel Flores, and
Hope Fletcher, worked together and moved through the field to have individual finishes of 14th for Kwambai, 25th for Flores, and 35th for Fletcher.
Madison Coskey rounded out the Eagles' top 5, finishing 46th.

We had a good start from several different perspectives and still have some things to work through as the season progresses. The team has been working well together and looking forward to this season!

The Eagles will now turn their attention to next Thursday night when they will travel to Midwestern State for a 4k race.

Men's 4-mile
The Lone Star Conference 5th ranked eagles traveled to Tulsa for the Rogers State Distance After Dark carnival to open their season with a 4-mile race.
The Eagles raced a young team, made up mostly of freshmen and sophomores, and finished with an impressive 4th-place team result. Returning senior
Tegen Arega led OC by putting himself in the front pack for almost the entirety of the race, ultimately finishing in 2nd with a time of 19:52.8 for 4 miles behind OBU's Maxamillian Wheeler.
Austin McNair led the chase pack around the 4-mile course, which led to an overall finish of 11th with a time of 20:20.7.
Following Arega and McNair, a large pack of Eagles worked together, which saw freshman runners
Brodey Skipworth and
Cole Green finish 27th and 31st, respectively. Sophomore
Lucas Forman wasn't far behind, finishing in 36th to round out the Eagles scoring top 5.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH MILLER
It was good to get the season started to get a gauge on our fitness and break up the training a bit. Overall, we had some good racing and some good things to build on!
