Eagles place 5th in stacked field at Centex

ROUND ROCK, Texas (March 20, 2022) – Punching above its weight, USA Ultimate Division III national champion Oklahoma Christian finished fifth in a mostly otherwise Division I field on Sunday in the championship bracket of the prestigious Centex tournament at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

Tournament organizers seeded OC – the smallest school in the 16-team college bracket – 13th but the Eagles won their pool on Saturday (beating Central Florida and Iowa State along the way) to qualify for the eight-team championship bracket.

The Eagles lost to 16th-seeded McGill (Quebec) 15-10 in the quarterfinal round on Sunday morning. OC rebounded with a 12-11 win over sixth-seeded Iowa, then earned a measure of revenge with an 11-5 win over California-Santa Barbara in the game to decide fifth place. UCSB, seeded fourth, had beaten the Eagles 12-11 in pool play.

OC's upcoming schedule remains in flux. Coach Garrett Taylor is trying to add one more regular-season tournament for the Eagles before they play in the Ozarks Conference postseason tournament, scheduled for April 9-10 in Rolla, Mo. The South Central Regional is set for April 30-May 1 in Commerce City, Colo., with the Division III Championship event scheduled for May 21-23 in Milwaukee, Wisc.
