RICHARDSON, Texas (May 12, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian distance runner Kelsey Castillo earned her first All-Lone Star Conference award in track and field, receiving second-team recognition on the list announced Wednesday.

The LSC formula for determining all-conference honorees is unique. The first-team list consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The second team includes athletes on the second-place relay teams and those scoring 8-13.9 points, while the third team recognizes members of third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points.

Castillo, a senior from Edmond, Okla., earned 10 points at the LSC meet last weekend in Canyon, Texas. She scored six points with a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters on Saturday in a time of 4:49.67. Later that day, she placed fifth in the 800-meter final in 2:21.75, scoring four more points. She accounted for more than half of the Eagles' 19 team points in the meet.

Although it's the first All-LSC honor for Castillo, she was a two-time All-Great American Conference second-team honoree in the indoor mile and distance medley relay when OC competed in the GAC. She was named earlier this season as the LSC's runner of the week and she's earned a slew of academic awards through the years from the LSC, the GAC, the Heartland Conference and the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
