LUBBOCK, Texas (Nov. 6, 2021) – Senior
Colton Meyers led an Oklahoma Christian cross country team that had all seven runners post career-best times on Saturday morning in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship at Lubbock Christian's Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course.
The Eagles placed 17th out of 26 teams in a loaded field in what's usually the toughest of Division II's eight regional races. The Eagles tied with Lone Star Conference rival St. Edward's (Texas) with 484 points and finished fifth along LSC teams in the race, two weeks after placing seventh in the LSC Championship race in Lawton.
Meyers, from Allen, Texas, was the Eagles' No. 1 runner for the first time this season, finishing 32nd in a field of 183 runners after posting a time of 31:25.41 over 10,000 meters. Not far behind, placing 45th was OC sophomore
Colten Brown of Boise City, Okla., who finished in 31:41.82.
Meyers and Brown must wait until Monday to learn if those times were good enough to earn them individual spots in the Division II Championship race in two weeks in Tampa, Fla.
The race winner, Dillon Powell of Colorado School of Mines, posted a time of 29:15.35.
The Eagles' other runners Saturday included junior
Jelte van Atten of Leiden, Netherlands (117th in 33:51.27), freshman
Griffin Chesire of Eldoret, Kenya (144th in 35:02.30), sophomore
Kolten Johnson of Lewisburg, Ten. (157th in 35:34.92), freshman
Cade Berkey of Hydro, Okla. (164th in 35:57.56) and freshman
Christian Fair of Stillwater, Okla. (175th in 37:51.02).
In the team race, Colorado Mines, with 42 points, edged runner-up Adams State (Colo.) with 54 points.
