OC Ultimate team debuts high in Ultiworld’s Division III rankings

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 5, 2021) – With two wins and a runner-up in its first three tournaments of the 2021-22 season, Oklahoma Christian's Ultimate team checked in at No. 3 in the preseason Division III College Power Rankings produced by the website Ultiworld.com, which were released Friday.

Ultiworld, which bills itself as the "premier news media site" dedicated to covering Ultimate, said its rankings "are based holistically on a number of factors: last season's performance, roster changes, conversations with coaches and players, fall results, and assorted other factors."

OC opened the fall portion of its season with a runner-up finish to Missouri S&T in the Rookie Ride event in Tulsa before winning the Just Plain Nasty tournament in Norman and the Ozarks Conference tournament in Tulsa. In the latter two tournaments, OC downed Missouri S&T – the squad that's No. 4 in the Ultiworld Division III rankings – three times.

The Eagles also own wins this season against No. 16 Sul Ross State (Texas) and No. 20 Truman State (Mo.), a squad that's split two matches with OC.

The top 10 in the Ultiworld rankings included No. 1 Richmond, No. 2 St. Olaf (Minn.), OC, Missouri S&T, Middlebury (Vt.), Whitman (Wash.), Whitworth (Wash.), Oberlin (Ohio), Kenyon (Ohio) and Franciscan (Ohio).

OC will be the top seed in the USA Ultimate South Central Regional, which will be played Nov. 13-14 at West Bank Sports Complex in Tulsa. Missouri S&T and Truman State will be among the teams in the regional.

"It's exciting to be ranked nationally, but our focus right now is on our regionals tournament in Tulsa next weekend," OC coach Garrett Taylor said. "There are some tough teams in our region that are also ranked in this poll that we're about to compete against, so we want to maintain our focus on what's directly ahead of us."
