Cross country teams change schedule, heading to Kansas

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 6, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's cross country teams will race Saturday in Kansas instead of in Texas, OC coach Wade Miller said Wednesday.

The Eagles had been scheduled to compete Saturday in the South Central Regional Preview races, to be hosted by Lubbock Christian (Texas) on its Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course. That course will be the site of this year's NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship races on Nov. 6.

Miller decided the Tiger Open – a meet hosted by Fort Hays State (Kan.) on the Sand Plum Nature Trail course in Victoria, Kan. – would better fit his teams' needs this week. OC has competed in previous years in the Tiger Open, which usually draws a strong field of Division II squads.

The women's 5,000-meter race will begin at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, with the men's 8,000-meter race to follow at 11 a.m. The women's race will include three teams currently ranked in the top 25 in Division II, while the men's race will have four top-20 squads, including No. 1-ranked Colorado School of Mines.
