Kelsey Castillo and
Destiny Grace each won an event title to lead Oklahoma Christian's women's track and field team Saturday in Southwestern Christian's Paul Parent Invitational at Miller Stadium.
VanVooren, from Bedford, Texas, won the 400 meters with a season-best time of 58.27 seconds, while Castillo, from Edmond, bested a field of 14 in the 3,000 meters with a career-best time of 10:47.83. Finishing third in the 3K was OC freshman
Kenya Bailey of Ponca City in 10:53.65.
Castillo doubled in the 800 meters, leading a seven-woman OC contingent in that event by placing third in 2:23.06. Also in the top 10 in the 30-woman race were junior
Kelsey Simmons of Shawnee (fourth in 2:24.21) and freshman
Caroline Schwab of Andover, Kan. (seventh in 2:29.69).
Grace, from Rockwall, Texas, won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, ½ inch (12.51 meters) and finished third in the hammer at 114 feet, 4 inches (34.84 meters) behind Woolly. Woolly, from Ardmore, had a winning throw of 133 feet, 5 inches (40.67 meters) and also placed second among nine throwers in the discus at 133 feet, 10 inches (40.80 meters).
Other OC athletes posting runner-up finishes included freshman
Aysha Robinson of Round Rock, Texas in the 100 meters (12.31 second), freshman
Morgan Ray of Edmond in the long jump (17 feet, 6¼ inches, or 5.34 meters) and junior
Ivy Lobley of Dalhart, Texas, in the 100-meter hurdles (15.84 seconds). One spot behind Lobley in the 10-woman field was junior
Jordyn Williams of McKinney, Texas (16.16 seconds).
Robinson also placed fifth among 24 runners in the 200 meters in 26.07 seconds.
Sophomore
Ellie Little of Edmond was third in the 5,000 meters in 21:12.88 while sophomore
Temar Smith of McKinney, Texas, placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 36 feet, 5½ inches (11.11 meters).
The Eagles' next meet will be the K.T. Woodman Classic, hosted by Wichita State in Wichita, Kan., on Friday and Saturday.
