NORMAN, Okla. (Feb. 22, 2019) –
Kenya Bailey became Oklahoma Christian's first individual All-Great American Conference indoor honoree on Friday night at the inaugural GAC Indoor Championships at Mosier Indoor Facility.
Bailey, a freshman from Ponca City, finished fourth among 18 runners in the 5,000 meters, running a steady race to finish in 19:12.52. It was the first time Bailey had run at the 5K distance indoors as a collegian and with the fourth-place finish, she earned All-GAC second-team recognition. Her teammate, sophomore
Ellie Little of Edmond, finished 12th in 20:34.07.
In the only other running event contested Friday, the Eagles' DMR team of
Rachel Meyers,
Leisa VanVooren,
Kelsey Simmons and
Kelsey Castillo finished fourth among five teams in the 13:01.52.
The meet features competitors from GAC track and field schools including OC, Rogers State, Harding (Ark.), Southern Nazarene, East Central, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Arkansas Tech and Oklahoma Baptist as well as a handful from non-GAC schools including Azusa Pacific (Calif.), La Verne (Calif.), West Texas A&M and LeTourneau (Texas). Only two GAC track schools, Southern Arkansas and Southwestern Oklahoma State, don't have athletes competing.
The meet will continue on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
