Lady Eagles’ quest for Heartland tournament title delayed a day

Coach Tom Heath's Lady Eagles will have to wait one day to resume playing in the Heartland Conference softball tournament.
SAN ANTONIO (May 4, 2018) – Inclement weather in south Texas on Friday put a one-day hold on Oklahoma Christian's next softball game in the Heartland Conference Championship tournament.

Second-seeded OC's winner's bracket game against fifth-seeded Rogers State (37-18) now will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday. An elimination game between top-seeded host St. Mary's (Texas) (33-22) and fourth-seeded Texas A&M International (25-33) will follow at 1:30 p.m., with the winner of that game to face the OC-Rogers State winner at 4 p.m. in another elimination game.

A win Saturday would vault OC (31-23) into the championship round, which now will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday. An if-necessary game would follow 30 minutes after the end of that game.

The tournament winner will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II tournament that will begin next week.

OC won its first game in the tournament, beating third-seeded Lubbock Christian (Texas) 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday. Lubbock Christian, the two-time defending Heartland tournament champion, fell 8-2 to Texas A&M International in an elimination game on Thursday night.

Rogers State advanced with a pair of 6-5 wins on Thursday, over Texas A&M International and St. Mary's.
