OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 7, 2018) – Oklahoma Christian will take a step into uncharted territory on Thursday and Friday when the Lady Eagles join Central Oklahoma to co-host the Edmond Regional Festival.
The eight-team softball event originally was scheduled to run Friday through Sunday, but weather concerns led to it being moved up to a Thursday-Friday schedule, which resulted in the cancellation of a handful of games. All games will be played either at OC's
Tom Heath Field or at UCO's 1-year-old stadium which – like OC – has an artificial turf playing surface.
Eight teams from three NCAA Division II leagues are participating in the festival – OC, UCO, Rogers State, East Central, Southern Nazarene, Northeastern State, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Washburn (Kan.).
It will be the first regular-season college festival that OC has helped host since
Tom Heath Field opened in 2014. The stadium has been a site for a handful of postseason tournaments, including the 2015 NCAA Division II semifinals and championship game.
Seven Edmond Regional Festival games will be played at OC – three on Thursday and four on Friday. On Thursday, OC (1-5) and SNU (0-0) will play at noon, followed by OC vs. Northeastern (3-1) at 2 p.m. SNU will face Northeastern at 4 p.m.
On Friday, Northeastern will play East Central at 11 a.m., Northeastern will face Southeastern at 1 p.m., OC will play Southeastern at 3 p.m. and OC will play Washburn at 5 p.m.
