Box Score 2 WICHITA, Kan. (March 31, 2017) –
Lacey Davidson bases-loaded double keyed a big first inning for Oklahoma Christian and
Madison Hagood threw a four-hit shutout, leading Oklahoma Christian to a 6-0 win over Newman (Kan.) on Friday.
In the second game of the doubleheader at the NU Softball Field, Newman evened the series with a 4-0 win over the Lady Eagles. The teams will play at 10 a.m. Saturday in the series' decisive game.
OC (22-15, 5-3 Heartland Conference) jumped on Newman (9-28, 3-5) from the start in the opener, seizing a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning.
Bridget White's fielder's choice grounder scored
Sheridan Bond to put OC up 1-0,
Kayla Eichler followed with a RBI single through the left side of the infield and Davidson doubled down the left-field line to clear the bases.
That outburst proved to be more than enough cushion for Hagood (10-7). The Heartland's ERA leader allowed only one Newman baserunner as far as third base while recording her 12th complete game and second shutout of the season.
Eichler's leadoff homer in the sixth inning off Newman starter Kate Smith (2-11) accounted for OC's final run, both of the game and the doubleheader.
In the second game, Newman pitcher Jensen Cromer (5-13) threw a five-hit shutout for the Jets, as OC stranded eight baserunners – at least one in every inning but the sixth. Cromer also hit a two-run triple in the third inning to put Newman up 3-0 against OC starter
Kaylie Upton (7-2).
