Hagood’s 2-hitter gives Lady Eagles split at No. 20 Texas Woman’s

Madison Hagood threw a two-hit shutout as OC won the opening game of its doubleheader at No. 20-ranked Texas Woman's.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENTON, Texas (April 5, 2016) – Madison Hagood pitched a two-hit shutout and Oklahoma Christian beat No. 20-ranked Texas Woman's 10-0 on Tuesday in the opening game of a softball doubleheader at Pioneer Field.

Texas Woman's bounced back to beat the Lady Eagles 4-1 in the second game despite a combined five-hitter by OC pitchers Kaylie Upton and Hagood.

In the opener, OC (17-22) posted its first win over a ranked foe this season behind Hagood, who allowed Texas Woman's (25-15) a single in the second inning and another in the sixth inning. The Pioneers advanced only one runner as far as third base as Hagood recorded her seventh complete game and third shutout of her freshman season.

Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles gave Hagood (11-8) plenty of run support, starting with a four-run second inning against Texas Woman's starter Tori Bice (14-9). OC had five hits in the inning, including RBI singles by Lacey Davidson, Alexus Vanlandingham and Haley Squier.

Kayla Eichler's run-scoring single in the fifth extended OC's lead to 5-0. Squier recorded her third RBI in the sixth with a single to left-center field and the Lady Eagles sealed the win with a four-run seventh, keyed by Madison Nordyke's three-run home run over the left-field wall.

OC outhit the Pioneers 6-5 in the second game, but left seven runners on base against Texas Woman's starter Hailey Dixon (8-5).

Texas Woman's took a 1-0 lead in the second when Laura Mabary tripled to right-center field and scored on a single by Lindy Kennedy off Upton (4-4). The Pioneers added a run in the second before the Lady Eagles pulled within 2-1 in the fourth, as Davidson's infield single scored Kelsie Finch, who had doubled. But the Pioneers scored twice in the sixth to seal the win.

OC will return to action on Friday, when they host Heartland Conference rival St. Edward's (Texas) in a doubleheader to begin what figures to be a key three-game league series.
