Hagood, Upton pitch gems as Lady Eagles run-rule Rogers State twice

Kayla Eichler runs toward first base on Friday night in the first of two run-rule wins by OC over Rogers State. She had four hits and four RBIs in the doubleheader.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY (April 15, 2016) – Madison Hagood and Kaylie Upton each pitched a complete-game shutout and Oklahoma Christian received offensive contributions from up and down its lineup while run-ruling visiting Rogers State twice on Friday, 8-0 and 8-0.

OC (23-23, 13-7 Heartland Conference) has won six straight games to move back to .500 for the softball season. The Lady Eagles remained in third place in the league standings while posting shutouts in consecutive games for the second time this month.

In the opener, Hagood (14-9) handcuffed the Hillcats on three hits and never allowed a runner past first base, thanks to two double plays turned by the Lady Eagles.

Meanwhile, OC jumped on Rogers State starter Jessica Christian (9-15) for seven runs in the first two innings. Kayla Eichler and Bridget White each had RBI singles in the first inning and White's two-run single to right fueled a four-run second inning that made it 7-0.

In the sixth inning, Kelsie Finch hit a one-out double down the left-field line and pinch-runner Alexus Vanlandingham scored on a single up the middle by Eichler, who like White had three RBIs. That ended the game via the run rule.

Finch went 3-for-4 and scored twice, while White was 3-for-3 and Eichler had two hits.

Upton (7-4) picked up where Hagood left off, tossing a two-hit gem and allowing only one baserunner as far as third base. Ashleigh Stidham led off the game for Rogers State (17-29, 6-14) with a double, but the Hillcats managed only one more hit, a fourth-inning single to right by Jamie Kowalick.

OC took a 1-0 lead against Rogers State starter Mayra Heiguera (3-6) in the second, as Lacey Davidson singled home pinch-runner Veronica Cassel. The Lady Eagles broke the game open with a five-run fourth that included five straight hits to open the inning – two of them bunt singles by Eichler and White.

Davidson followed them with a two-run single to center, and Kirsten Scott greeted relief pitcher Rachel Jones with a towering two-run home run to center field that made it 6-0.

The Lady Eagles ended the game in the fifth with two more runs, on RBI singles by Eichler and Davidson. Davidson finished the game 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Finch, Eichler and White also had two hits.

OC and Rogers State will play the final game of their series on Saturday at noon.
