Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY (April 12, 2016) –
Madison Hagood and
Kaylie Upton each posted a quality pitching performance, while
Sheridan Bond and
Bridget White provided dramatic hits for Oklahoma Christian during a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday against visiting Fort Hays State (Kan.).
Bond's bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning complemented Hagood's four-hit shutout and lifted OC to a 1-0 win in the opener, while Upton went the distance and White hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to seal a 5-2 win in the second game at
Tom Heath Field.
OC (21-23) has won four straight games heading into its final home series of the season on Friday and Saturday against Heartland Conference rival Rogers State.
Hagood (13-9) recorded her ninth complete game and fourth shutout of the season, never allowing a Fort Hays State baserunner to advance to third base. Fort Hays State starter Paxton Duran (12-17) also kept the Lady Eagles off balance, though, striking out eight batters and retiring eight in a row during one stretch.
But OC finally broke through in the seventh. Kayla Eicher led off with a single to left field. White laid down a sacrifice bunt attempt and the Tigers tried to throw out Eichler at second base, but weren't successful. Pinch-hitter
Jordan Chism drew a walk to load the bases, still with no outs.
Avery Walker hit into a fielder's choice, forcing out Eichler at home, but Bond followed with a clean single up the middle to score White and end the game.
Fort Hays State (17-28) took a 2-1 lead in the second game, taking advantage of a pair of OC errors, but that was all the Tigers could manage against Upton (6-4), who scattered five hits and didn't allow an earned run.
Madison Nordyke's RBI single to center field scored Bond in the fifth, tying the game at 2-2, and Nordyke scored the tiebreaking run as
Haley Squier reached on an error. White's homer in the sixth off Fort Hays State pitcher Carrie Clarke (4-11) ended all doubt.
