Box Score ODESSA, Texas (Feb. 27, 2016) –
Sheridan Bond keyed a three-run eighth inning with a RBI triple and
Madison Hagood didn't allow an earned run in 5 1/3 innings of relief pitching, lifting Oklahoma Christian past Texas-Permian Basin 8-5 on Saturday afternoon at the UTPB Softball Field.
OC (7-10, 3-0 Heartland Conference) swept the three-game series against UTPB (2-13, 0-3) and extended its winning streak against the Falcons to seven games.
UTPB took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning with an unearned run off Hagood (4-3), who posted two pitching wins in the series. But OC rallied against UTPB starter RustieAnne Spinks (1-4) for the tying run in the top of the seventh inning, as Bond singled to lead off, then stole second base and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by
Haley Squier.
Hagood wriggled out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh, stranding two Falcons on base. In the eighth, OC freshman
Alexus Vanlandingham started the Lady Eagles with a two-out double to center field. Bond followed with her triple and scored on a single by
Avery Walker to make it 7-5. Walker later scored on a single by
Jordan Chism.
The Falcons didn't advance a runner past first base in the bottom of the eighth.
Walker went 3-for-5 for the Lady Eagles, while Bond, Chism,
Niki Davidson and Vanlandingham had two hits each.
OC will host Pittsburg State (Kan.) on Tuesday for a doubleheader set to start at 2 p.m.
