Box Score 2 ODESSA, Texas (Feb. 26, 2016) – Oklahoma Christian pitchers
Madison Hagood and
Kaylie Upton each pitched a complete game and allowed a combined six hits as OC swept a doubleheader at Texas-Permian Basin 8-0 and 11-3 on Friday at the UTPB Softball Field.
OC (6-10, 2-0 Heartland Conference) will go for a sweep of the three-game league series against UTPB (2-12, 0-2) on Saturday at noon. OC has won six straight games in the series against the Falcons.
In the opener, Hagood (3-3) allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.
Haley Squier's two-run double in the first inning off UTPB starter Randi May (1-5) gave the Lady Eagles an early lead.
Freshman
Alexus Vanlandingham hit her first career home run, a solo shot, in the fourth for OC, and
Niki Davidson's two-run homer in the fifth put the Lady Eagles up 6-0.
Kelsie Finch had an RBI double and
Jordan Chism added an RBI single in the top of the sixth to stretch the lead to 8-0, and Hagood quickly retired the Falcons in the bottom of the inning to cap off the run-rule win.
Upton (2-2) allowed four hits in five innings for OC in the second game. Alyssa Lene's three-run homer in the bottom of the first put the Falcons up 3-2, but Vanlandingham's two-run double keyed a three-run second inning for OC, putting the Lady Eagles back ahead 5-3.
The Lady Eagles jumped on UTPB starter RustieAnne Spinks (1-2) and reliever Chelsae Faries for seven runs in the fifth inning.
Sheridan Bond capped the outburst with a two-run single to right field that made it 11-3, and Upton blanked the Falcons in the bottom of the inning to give OC a second straight run-rule win.
