Box Score FORT SMITH, Ark. (May 2, 2015) –
Kyle Lacy keyed a late Oklahoma Christian rally with a two-run home run and a two-run single, helping the Eagles salvage the final game of a three-game series against Arkansas-Fort Smith with a 7-4 win on Saturday afternoon at Crowder Field.
OC (28-20, 14-13 Heartland Conference) needed the win to ensure a winning record in league play and provide some needed momentum as the Eagles prepare for the upcoming National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region tournament in Conway, Ark.
The Eagles trailed 4-2 after six innings, but
Zac Cobble led off the top of the seventh before Lacy homered down the right-field line off UAFS starter Devin Hampton to tie the game.
In the eighth, the Eagles jumped on UAFS relievers Matt Turner (1-1) and Jordan Hammer for five hits.
Jordan Lopez singled home
Cody Rosecrans with the tiebreaking run and Lacy later delivered a two-run single to make it 7-4.
UAFS (27-19, 15-10) pulled within 7-5 in the eighth. Against Lacy – who began the ninth inning on the mound for OC – the Lions loaded the bases with one out, but senior right-hander
Matt Brown coaxed a double-play grounder from Brennan Rogers to end the game. It was Brown's first career save.
Jared Price (5-1) pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing only two hits, to pick up the pitching win for the Eagles.
Cobble went 3-for-3 with three runs scored while Lacy was 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBIs.
Chase Kuwitzky also went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Eagles.
OC is hoping to schedule a home game at some point during the next week. If that doesn't happen, the Eagles will be off until the NCCAA regional, which will begin May 13.
