Finch shines with 3 RBIs as Lady Eagles beat Midwestern State

Kelsie Finch had three RBIs for OC in a 7-2 win over Midwestern State (Texas).
Box Score 1 OKLAHOMA CITY (April 7, 2015) – The bottom third of the batting order came through in a major way for Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday against Midwestern State (Texas).

Kelsie Finch had three RBIs, Niki Davidson hit a two-run home run and scored three times and Jordan Chism doubled and also scored three times as the Lady Eagles won 7-2.

OC led a scheduled second game 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning, but an issue with the pitching lane at Tom Heath Field surfaced and after a 20-minute delay, umpires ended the game due to field conditions. None of the statistics accumulated during the second game will count.

Midwestern State (19-15) long has been a strong NCAA Division II softball program and figured to offer a good test for OC (20-13). Sure enough, for 2½ innings, OC starter Shea Coats and Midwestern State starter Katelyn Holmes were locked in a scoreless duel.

Davidson ended that in the bottom of the third. After Chism drew a leadoff walk, Davidson lined a shot over the left-field fence to put OC up 2-0. Midwestern State pulled within 2-1 in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Kelley Schaefer.

In the fifth, Finch hit a sacrifice fly off Holmes (9-7) to score Chism and Courtney Starr delivered a two-out single that brought home Davidson, who had singled. That gave the Lady Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Schaefer hit a solo home run off Coats (9-7) in the sixth, but that was the last of the Mustangs' five hits against OC's sophomore right-hander, who fanned 10 batters and walked only two.

Finch hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth and a third run scored on the play due to an error, making it 7-2. Coats retired the Mustangs in order in the seventh.

OC will return to action on Friday, hosting Lubbock Christian (Texas) for the first two games of a three-game Heartland Conference series.  It will be the Lady Chaparrals' first time to play at OC since the 2011 season, when both schools still were members of the NAIA's Sooner Athletic Conference.
