Box Score CLAREMORE, Okla. (April 3, 2015) –
Shea Coats threw her second complete game in as many days and
Kendra Pierce continued her hot hitting with a go-ahead two-run double, leading Oklahoma Christian to a 4-1 win over Rogers State on Friday at the Diamond Sports Complex.
OC (19-13, 8-7 Heartland Conference) won its first road series of the softball season, taking two of three games from the HIllcats.
Coats (8-7) allowed seven hits and struck out four batters while posting her 13th complete game of the season. Rogers State (9-20, 5-12) picked up its only run against Coats in the third inning, when Ashleigh Stidman reached on an infield single and eventually scored on a single by Carley Conley.
The Lady Eagles pulled even against Rogers State starter Rachel Jones (4-4) in the fourth, with
Sheridan Bond's single scoring
Courtney Starr, who had earlier singled.
In the fifth,
Kelsie Finch hit a one-out double down the left-field line for OC and
Monique Elliott walked. With two outs, Pierce – who entered the day third in NCAA Division II in batting average – laced a double to left-center field, scoring Finch and Elliott to give OC a 3-1 lead. Pierce ended Friday hitting .519 for the season.
OC added an insurance run in the seventh, as Elliott tripled and scored on a groundout by Starr.
The Lady Eagles, who have won 10 of their last 11 games, will host South Central Region power Midwestern State (Texas) on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
