Texas-Permian Basin takes pair of pitchers’ duels from Eagles

Kelby Reneau did not allow an earned run in 8 1/3 innings against Texas-Permian Basin but still took the pitching loss.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY (April 3, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian starting pitchers Dillon Endecott and Kelby Reneau each turned in an outstanding performance on Friday, but on a frustrating day for the Eagles' offense, neither one was rewarded with a win against Texas-Permian Basin.

UTPB also received strong pitching outings from Lance Fairchild and Brad Paramapoonya, lifting the Falcons to a doubleheader sweep on a windy day at Dobson Field – winning the opener 3-2 and the second game 2-1.

OC (19-13, 7-7 Heartland Conference) and UTPB (18-10, 9-5) will complete their three-game series on Saturday at noon.

Endecott (3-3) threw five shutout innings and the Eagles gave him a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Kyle Lacy singled and scored on a single by Jackson Matthews. But Endecott ran into trouble in the sixth, giving up three hits, including run-scoring singles by Ryan Souza and Daniel Andrade. The latter put the Falcons up 3-1.

Fairchild (3-2) lasted 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Brooks Eady. The Eagles pulled within 3-2 against Eady in the bottom of the seventh, when Matthews' two-out double down the right-field line drove home Derek Jones, but Kolton Brown grounded out to end the game and give Eady his second save of the baseball season. OC stranded 10 baserunners during the game.

In the second game, left-handers Reneau (3-4) and Paramapoonya (5-1) traded zeros until the bottom of the seventh, when the Eagles broke through. Austin Orth doubled off Paramapoonya and scored on a one-out single by Josh Garbrecht.

But in the eighth, two errors by OC opened the door for the Falcons, who scored two unearned runs off Reneau as a result.

Jones reached second base with one out in the OC eighth, but was picked off. In the ninth, Cody Rosecrans and Chase Kuwitzky each drew a two-out walk, but Zac Cobble fouled out to right field to end the game against UTPB reliever Nolan Schattel, who recorded his fourth save.
