Bison down Eagles in nonconference matchup

Ryan Ward had a key basehit that led to one of OC's runs against OBU on Wednesday.
Box Score SHAWNEE, Okla. (April 29, 2015) – It was one of those days for Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday afternoon at Oklahoma Baptist, and against a team as good as the Bison, that meant trouble.

OBU, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, extended its winning streak to 16 games while beating the Eagles 15-2 at Bison Field at Ford Park.

OBU (46-4) outhit OC (27-18) by a 17-3 count and never trailed as the baseball teams combined to use 14 pitchers in the midweek tilt. The Eagles were tuning up for a weekend series against Heartland Conference rival Arkansas-Fort Smith, while OBU was preparing for its final Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, with the Bison set to join the NCAA Division II Great American Conference for 2015-16.

The Bison led 2-0 after one inning. OC pulled within 2-1 in the top of the second, as Ben McKenzie singled and scored on a groundout by Caden Cleveland, but the Bison answered with two more runs in the bottom of the second against OC starter Brennan Walker (3-1) and eventually built their lead to 8-1 after five innings.

The Eagles' other run came in the seventh. Jordan Lopez reached on an error and took third on a single by Ryan Ward before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Brady Baugh.

Yariel Gonzalez went 5-for-6 with four RBIs and a home run for the Bison, while Felipe Gonzalez was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a home run. OBU starter Taylor Hearn (9-0) threw three innings and picked up the pitching win.

OC's doubleheader at Arkansas-Fort Smith will start Friday at 1 p.m. The teams will play a single game on Saturday at noon.
