Box Score 2 CANYON, Texas (April 14, 2015) – No. 2-ranked West Texas A&M hit four home runs and limited Oklahoma Christian to seven hits while sweeping a softball doubleheader 5-0 and 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Schaeffer Park.
West Texas A&M (39-6), the defending Division II national champion, extended its winning streak to 15 games, while OC (22-16) suffered only its third and fourth shutouts of the season.
Renee Erwin hit a three-run home run in the third inning of the first game off OC starter
Shea Coats (11-8) and Allie Smith added a solo shot in the fourth for the Lady Buffs. Coats went the distance and struck out eight batters.
OC's best threat to score came in the sixth, when the Lady Eagles recorded two of their three hits. A walk to
Kelsie Finch and singles by
Monique Elliott and
Niki Davidson loaded the bases with two outs, but reliever Tori Bayer struck out
Haley Squier to end the threat.
West Texas A&M starter Rita Hokianga (17-4) picked up the pitching win.
In the second game, the Lady Buffs took a 3-0 first-inning lead on a two-run homer by Erwin and a solo shot by Lacey Taylor off OC starter
Taylor Mosher (3-3), who recovered to throw her third complete game of the season.
Hannah Newcomb (10-1) threw six innings to earn the pitching win for West Texas A&M.
OC will return to action on Friday, when the Lady Eagles will host No. 7-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) in the first two games of a three-game Heartland Conference series.
