Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY (March 20, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian combined the good pitching of
Shea Coats and
Taylor Mosher with solid hitting led by
Monique Elliott and
Jordan Chism on Friday against Texas-Permian Basin. The result was predictably positive.
Elliott had six hits and Chism homered and had five RBIs as the Lady Eagles rolled to a 7-0, 10-2 doubleheader sweep at
Tom Heath Field, recording their first two Heartland Conference wins after what has been a challenging start to the league season.
Coats threw a two-hit shutout and Mosher followed with a complete-game effort in the circle for OC (11-12, 2-6 Heartland), which will try for the series sweep against UTPB (5-20, 1-5) at noon Saturday.
After giving up a first-inning single, Coats (6-6) was nearly untouchable, retiring 16 straight batters. The Falcons never advanced a runner past second base and struck out 11 times.
Elliott went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, while Chism hit a two-run home run in the fifth to key a three-run inning for OC against UTPB starter Holly Herrington (2-8).
Sheridan Bond also reached base three times – on two walks and a hit-by-pitch – and scored twice and fellow freshman
Madison Nordyke had a pair of RBIs.
It was more of the same in the second game for the Lady Eagles. Except for a two-run third inning, Mosher (3-2) kept the Falcons' bats in check and finished with four strikeouts.
OC scored early and often against UTPB's Kim Alonzo (2-5), posting four runs in the first inning and five more in the second.
Kendra Pierce and Chism each had a two-run double in the first, while Bond's two-run triple to right keyed the second-inning outburst. Elliott and Nordyke had three hits each.
The game ended after 4½ innings due to the run rule.
