Box Score LAREDO, Texas (March 13, 2015) – Texas A&M International jumped on Oklahoma Christian for six early runs and held on for a 6-3 win over the Lady Eagles on Friday at Dustdevil Field, completing a sweep of the teams' three-game Heartland Conference softball series.
It's been a long, difficult stretch on the road for OC (8-9, 0-6 Heartland), which dropped seven of eight games during a season-long stretch away from home. The good news for the Lady Eagles is their next 14 games will be at home, starting with a doubleheader Monday against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.).
The big blow for TAMIU (15-14, 8-1) in the first inning against OC starter
Shea Coats was a bases-loaded double by Alyssa Soneff that put the Dustdevils up 4-0. Brenda Parnin's two-run home run in the second inning made it 6-0.
Coats (5-4) settled down and blanked the Dustdevils the rest of the way. She finished with six strikeouts.
OC cut TAMIU's lead in half with a three-run third inning, which included a solo home run by
Kendra Pierce and RBI singles by
Haley Squier and
Krystal Rodriguez, who was making her first appearance of the season.
The Lady Eagles threatened in the sixth, putting two runners on base with two outs for
Niki Davidson. She singled but TAMIU left fielder Chelsea Capello threw out OC baserunner
Madison Nordyke at home to end the inning.
Pierce finished 3-for-3 for the Lady Eagles, extending her hitting streak to 17 games and raising her conference-leading batting average to .593.
Delainy Thompson (4-6) went the distance in the circle for TAMIU.
