Central Oklahoma downs cold-shooting Lady Eagles

Sarah Parker led OC with 19 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Central Oklahoma.
Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 17, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian women's basketball coach Stephanie Findley wants to know what happened to the team she watched roll to an easy win in its only exhibition game.

For the third straight regular-season game, the Lady Eagles shot poorly, and for the third straight time, they lost, falling 63-51 to cross-Edmond rival Central Oklahoma on Tuesday night in the Eagles' Nest.

OC (0-3) connected on just 23.2 percent from the field (13 of 56) and went just 8-of-40 (20 percent) from 2-point range. UCO (3-0) wasn't much better, shooting just 32.1 percent (18 of 56) and getting outrebounded 47-43, but it was enough to win.

"We can't shoot 23 percent from the field and expect to win," Findley said.

A scoreless stretch of 5 minutes, 21 seconds in the second quarter proved to be OC's undoing against the Bronchos. After falling into a 16-8 hole, the Lady Eagles scored the next eight points to tie the game. They tied it again at 18-18 on a put-back basket by freshman Addy Clift with 7:52 left in the quarter.

OC didn't score again until the 2:31 mark, mixing six straight missed shots with four turnovers. UCO scored 16 straight points and went up 34-18 on two free throws by Julia Mason with 2:43 left in the half.

The Lady Eagles cut the gap to 11 points (37-26) by halftime. Down 49-34 with 1:50 left in the third quarter, OC made what proved to be its final push, scoring 10 straight points to pull within 49-44 with 4:24 left on two free throws by Sarah Parker, who went 12-of-14 from the line and finished with 19 points and nine rebounds.

But even during that stretch, OC missed five straight shots that could have cut even further into UCO's lead. The Bronchos finally answered with a basket by McKenzie Solberg and a 3-pointer by Marley Anderson with 2:40 left and OC came no closer than eight points after that.

Besides Parker, McKenzie Stanford was the only other OC player to reach double digits in scoring, with 12 points. Solberg led UCO with 12 points, while Sadie Mason had 10.

OC will return to action on Thursday, hosting NAIA foe Southwestern Christian of Bethany.
