Box Score SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 23, 2014) – A seventh-inning rally by Oklahoma Christian fell just short on Sunday afternoon, allowing Western Oregon to escape with a 5-4 win over the Lady Eagles in OC's final game in the Rattler Softball Invitational.
OC (6-6) entered the seventh trailing the Wolves 5-2 and with just two hits to that point, but Courtney Starr led off the inning with an infield single. One out later, Sarah Endres reached on another infield single and Abby Taliaferro followed with a run-scoring single.
Endres scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-4. Pinch-hitter Niki Davidson grounded out, but Kala Ratliff reached base on a two-out error, giving OC two runners on base. Western Oregon starter Eryka Brill (2-1) proved up to the challenge, though, retiring pinch-hitter Jordan Chism on a ground ball for the final out.
OC scored once in the third inning, with Taliaferro hitting an infield single and eventually scoring on an error by Brill. Western Oregon (6-9) answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning off OC starter Taylor Mosher (2-3), two of those scoring on a two-out error.
The Wolves added two more runs in the fourth, as Jourdan Williams walked, Danielle Harcourt doubled and Ashlie Garder followed with a single up the middle to score them both.
The Lady Eagles scratched a run across in the fifth. Danielle Collins walked and Endres, pinch-running for her, stole second and eventually scored on a groundout by Monique Elliott.
OC went 3-2 during the Rattler Softball Invitational, which was hosted by Heartland Conference rival St. Mary's (Texas). The Lady Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they host Texas Woman's for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
