Lady Eagles rally, but lose on walk-off grand slam at St. Mary’s

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 13, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian staged a dramatic five-run seventh-inning rally on Saturday afternoon, but St. Mary's answered with a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the inning to beat the Lady Eagles 8-5 at Roadrunner Field.

St. Mary's (34-12) completed a sweep of its three-game Heartland Conference series against OC (18-20). The series had been scheduled to be hosted by OC, but heavy rain in the Oklahoma City area earlier this week resulted in the series being shifted to San Antonio.

OC trailed 4-0 entering the seventh inning, but recorded five hits off St. Mary's starter Maricela Bissaro and reliever Emily Brittain (20-4). Kendra Pierce hit a two-run double to left field off Bissaro and Thomas greeted Brittain with a three-run home run to put the Lady Eagles ahead 5-4.

But the Lady Eagles couldn't hold the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Shelly Lee Zawadzki led off with a single off OC's fourth pitcher of the game, Danielle Collins (1-4). A throwing error by Collins allowed Taylor Vidrine to reach base and Christina Rodriguez walked to load the bases.

Taylor Mosher, who started the game in the pitching circle for OC, re-entered the game, but Haley Richter hit a game-ending grand slam for the Rattlers.

Lauren Chatigny, Pierce, Thomas and Sarah Peoples each had two hits for the Lady Eagles.
