Lady Eagles sweep Northwestern

Strong pitching keyed Oklahoma Christian to a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State University, 5-0 and 5-4, in Alva on April 9.

Freshman Sophia Johnson hurled a two-hit shutout in the opener and sophomore Linzi Farris pitched a four-hitter in the nightcap to raise the Lady Eagles' record to 19-17 and 6-10 in conference play.

OC jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with second baseman Allissa Harper's home run setting the pace. The Lady Eagles scored two more in the second when shortstop Tracy Washam doubled home two runs. Johnson struck out four to earn her 14th win of the season.

The Lady Eagles scored three runs in the top of the seventh to win the second game. Whitney Edmondson's double led a five-hit barrage, with Harper driving in two runs and Rachel Smith driving in the eventual game winner.

Farris struck out five and allowed only one earned run to pick up her fifth win of the year.

On the day, Smith led the Lady Eagles with five hits in seven at bats. Harper and Washam were three for seven at the plate.
