On a day when Oklahoma Christian's Lindsey Lawson, Rachel Seeber and Tracy Washam earned All-Sooner Athletic Conference first-team honors, the Lady Eagles almost duplicated last year's Cinderella run to the SAC tournament title.
OC won four games and advanced to the SAC championship final before falling to fifth-ranked St. Gregory's University at Hall of Fame Stadium May 6. The Lady Eagles close the season with a 23-31 record.
Coach Tom Heath's troops put together three back-to-back shutouts, including a 2-0 victory over ninth-ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, to earn a berth in the tournament finals. Only a pair of losses to the 49-11 Lady Cavaliers marred an outstanding tournament and season finish for the Lady Eagles.
Battling their way to the finals, OC defeated Northwestern Oklahoma 11-2 and lost to SGU 7-6 in extra innings on Friday before reeling off shutout wins over Oklahoma Baptist 8-0, Northwestern Oklahoma 8-0 and USAO 2-0 on Saturday.
Freshman Linzi Farris picked up her 10th win of the year against Northwestern Oklahoma, Erin Bryan tossed a five-hitter against OBU, Farris shut out Northwestern for her 11th victory and Lawson hurled a four-hitter to defeat USAO.
In the final, OC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but SGU reclaimed the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Cavaliers added one run in the second, two in the third and the final two in the sixth for the 8-1 victory.
