Unheralded Oklahoma Christian University rode standout pitching into the finals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament in Alva May 5.
The Lady Eagles (23-25) play once-defeated USAO (43-16) the finals at 1 p.m. today. A second game will follow if needed.
Senior Courtney Quine continued her mastery over the Drovers as she engineered her second straight, 1-0 shutout of ninth ranked USAO. Quine (6-10) is 3-0 against USAO this season and has a string of 16 consecutive scoreless innings against them.
Quine tossed a two-hitter as the Lady Eagles pushed across the winning run in the top of the seventh. USAO's Dana Askins (22-8) was the loser.
OC followed with a 3-1 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University (30-26) behind the two-hit pitching of freshman Lindsey Lawson (12-10).
The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the first inning and added another in the second for the early lead. A walk to Shawna Lenz, a single by Angie Plowman and a NW infield error sent Lenz across for the first run, An infield out by Sara Waters scored Plowman.
OC's final run came after walks to Rachel Seeber and Quine, a wild pitch and a scoring single by freshman Stephanie Branham.
In the double elimination tournament USAO defeated St. Gregory's University 8-0 and Northwestern Oklahoma 5-1 to gain the other spot in the finals.
