Senior Lacey Botchlet drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to give Oklahoma Christian a 4-3 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University at home May 6.
Botchlet's third hit of the game scored Angie Plowman from second base as the Lady Eagles closed their regular season play on a high note for five seniors playing their last home game. Seeing their last action were Botchlet, Laura Castille, Stephanie Gault, GInny Herndon and Tiffany Willis. Castille and Willis missed the last half of the season with injuries.
The Lady Eagles, who meet Oklahoma City University in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament May 7 at Hall of Fame Stadium, upped their season record to 20-26 and their conference record to 11-13.
With the scored tied at 3-all at the end of seven innings, the international tie breaker format put Plowman on second base, setting the stage for Botchlet's winning base hit.
Northwestern scored an unearned run in the first inning but the Lady Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning on a walk, sacrifice and base hits by Rachel Seeber, Plowman and Botchet. NWOK bunched three base hits to score a single run in the top of the third and tied it up on an OC error and two base hits in the seventh.
Gault, who had four strikeouts for the day, pitcher her way out of a tight situation in the extra inning, forcing the last two batters to ground out with a runner on third base. The senior righthander is now 11-13 on the year.
Botchlet led OC with three hits in four at bats with two runs batted in and Seeber had two hits in four trips with a single RBI. Stephanie Swarb had two hits in three at bats.
