OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (April 16, 2008) – The Oklahoma Christian University softball team improved to 25-19 and 10-12 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with run-rule victories of 14-3 and 9-1 over Oklahoma Baptist University of Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles beat Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) 12-5 and 14-7 in SAC play.
Oklahoma Christian outhit Oklahoma Baptist (17-27, 6-12) 13-to-6 in the day's first game en route to a six-inning run rule.
The Lady Eagles scored in every inning but the first and fifth. Five-run frames in the fourth and sixth put the game away.
OC led 4-2 after three innings of play before the first of the five-run efforts came to fruition.
In the fourth, Sandra Darmstadt provided the big blow with a three-run homer over the left-field wall.
Another five spot in the sixth sent the game to a run-rule conclusion. Allissa Hejl lifted a solo shot to start the inning, then five batters later the bases were loaded with one out for Tracy Washam.
Fresh off blasting a pair of homers in the SNU series, Washam ended the game with her third long ball in two days. The grand slam made it a 14-3 run rule.
Christin Dobbs (3-for-4) had three hits in the game and two runs scored. Deidre Chatigny (2-for-5), Washam (2-for-5), Darmstadt (2-for-3) and Hejl (2-for-4) all had two hits. Washam and Darmstadt each had four RBIs.
Linzi Farris picked up her eighth win in nine decisions to improve to 10-7 on the season. The Edmond, Okla., slinger gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out two.
In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles would only need five innings to put away the Lady Bison.
OBU scored its lone run in the top of the first on a Jayme Boyer two-bagger.Â
But OC got five runs in the home half. Chatigny sacrifice flied Dobbs in to make it 1-1. Washam then doubled, before Amy Urbanovsky clubbed a two-run shot out to left to make it 3-1.
Darmstadt reached on an error, then Rachel Smith lined a triple in between the left and center fielders to give OC a 4-1 cushion. Smith finally made it 5-1 on a passed ball.
OC was held scoreless until a three-run fourth. Washam doubled in Dobbs to put OC ahead 8-1.
The game concluded in the fifth when Tiffany Sherman skidded a bases-loaded single through the left side to score Darmstadt, putting OC ahead 9-1.
Washam's 2-for-3 line in game two was the only two-hit performance in the win, but six Lady Eagles had hits. Sherman and Urbanovsky each had two-RBI performances.
Caitlin Matthies (9-6) earned the win with a solid one-run, six-hit outing
The Lady Eagles are back in action at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium and the Capital City Classic on Friday and Saturday. OC plays Bellevue (Neb.) and Northwestern Oklahoma State at 12 and 6 p.m. Saturday's pool play will be determined by Friday's results.
