Lady Eagles Sweep SWOSU

Oklahoma Christian University combined shutout pitching with timely hitting to sweep Southwestern Oklahoma State University 4-0 and 8-0 here Feb. 19.

Reversing two opening season losses to the Bulldogs, the Lady Eagles rode the strong pitching of freshman Lindsey Lawson and senior Courtney Quine to even OC's season record at 4-4. Each of the hurlers are now 2-2 on the year.

Lawson allowed five hits in the opener, striking out three and walking one. In the final inning Lawson aided her own cause by doubling in Rachel Seeber with OC's first run. Freshman Sandra Darmstadt provided the game's big hit with a monstrous three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth.

Quine pitched a three-hitter while riding the crest of OC's 17-hit attack in the second game. She struck out six and walked two.

In the third inning, doubles by Allissa Harper and Lawson and singles by Quine and Sara Waters pushed two runs across for the Lady Eagles. Harper hit safely and was driven home on a double by Lawson. Darmstadt and Heather Meyer also produced run scoring singles on a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles used a three-run sixth inning to run-rule the Lady Bulldogs. Quine led off with a single followed by base hits by Harper, Angie Plowman, Lawson, Waters and Darmstadt to produce three runs.

Leading the OC hitters were Lawson, with seven hits in eight at bats, Harper was three for three and Darmstadt was four of eight. Quine was three for four.

Oklahoma Christian will meet NCAA Division I University of Texas in Austin, Texas Feb. 23 with games at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
