SHAWNEE, Okla. (April 7, 2009) – Oklahoma Christian University had a nine-game winning streak snapped with a game-two doubleheader loss at Oklahoma Baptist University on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles won the opener 3-1 before losing the second game 3-0.
The split takes Oklahoma Christian to 23-12 overall and 7-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference games. The Lady Eagles return to the diamond on Thursday at Rogers State University (Okla.).
OC tied the first game at 1-1 in the second inning when Deidre Chatigny singled to centerfield to score Tiffany Sherman. The score stayed tied until the fifth when Casey Brady plated Amy Urbanovsky with a sacrifice fly to put the Lady Eagles on top for good.
OC added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Sherman drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-1 Lady Eagles.
Linzi Farris got the game-one win to even her 2009 record at 5-5. The left-hander allowed one run on six hits in seven innings of work.
Chatigny was 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI, and reigning SAC Player of the Week Tracy Washam went 2-for-4. Amber Canady (1-for-2), Sherman (1-for-3), Urbanovsky (1-for-3) and Christin Dobbs (1-for-4) had OC's other hits.
In the nightcap, the Lady Bison broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth for the game's only scores. Abbey Basler had the big blow with a two-out, two-RBI double.
The Lady Eagles didn't get a hit the rest of the game off Oklahoma Baptist starter Sonya Beach (7-5), and the Lady Bison improved to 23-14 and 5-7 in the SAC.
Sophia McKean lost her first game of the season to fall to 6-1. The junior gave up three runs, but two were unearned. McKean's team-low ERA is now 1.21.
The Lady Eagles managed five hits off Beach, with Canady (1-for-2), Dobbs (1-for-3), Brady (1-for-3), Washam (1-for-3) and Cara Miller (1-for-3) each getting knocks.
