TWU spurt spoils Eagles' Thanksgiving

Box score

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 28, 2008) – A 16-0 second-half run led No. 15 Texas Wesleyan University to an 85-78 win over Oklahoma Christian University Friday night.

Chris Berry made 13-of-17 shots on his way to 33 points, including the first nine in the 16-0 run that turned a 50-44 OC lead into a 60-50 TWU advantage.

After the Eagles' David Jackson hit a three-pointer to make it 60-53, the Rams reeled off seven more points to complete a 23-3 streak that gave TWU control.

The Rams' charge coincided with the absence of OC All-American Jason Taylor, who went out with his fourth foul at the 14:13 mark and didn't return until the Rams led by 14 with 9:00 left.

The Eagles tried to rally, cutting the deficit to six points three times in the final minute, but a breakaway dunk by Dane Dmitrovic and four points from Berry closed out the win for the Rams.

Taylor led the Eagles with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Jackson made 6-of-11 three-pointers on his way to 20 points. Jeff Crocker and Kyle Tefft scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Berry as joined in double figures by Terrell Henry (14 points), Kennith Gober (13) and Hector Mukweyi (10). The Rams shot 71 percent from the field (including 6-of-10 from three-point range) to overcome 20 turnovers.

Oklahoma Christian shot 38 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc.

The Eagles play Paul Quinn College (Texas) here Saturday at 2 p.m. in the second game of the Texas Shootout.
