DURANT, Okla. (Nov. 20, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian improved to 5-0 on the year with a 74-49 win over NCAA Division II Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday night in Durant.
The Eagles rode NAIA All-American Jason Taylor's game-high 21 points to the second-most lopsided win in Oklahoma Christian-Southeastern series history. The 25-point victory on Thursday was only outdone by a 91-61 Eagle win during the 1986-87 season.
The 49 points were the fewest OC has allowed to SOSU (0-3) in series history. The Eagles were 25-of-53 (47 percent) from the filed compared to the Savage Storm's 16-of-45 (36 percent) clip. OC is now 27-12 all-time against SOSU.
SOSU led 19-16 at the 9:23 mark of the first half after Mychal Horn dropped in a layup. But OC shot off 11 unanswered points to wrestle away control of the game for good.
Chad Endres got the run going with a jumper at 9:03 to cut the Savage Storm's lead to one point. The Eagles then got hot from three-point land as Jeff Crocker nailed two triples and Endres added another to put OC ahead 27-19 by the 6:11 point.
The Eagles went on another run – a 10-2 jaunt – late in the half to take a 37-26 lead at halftime. Crocker had 13 points in the first half alone, while Taylor had 11. OC made 7-of-12 three pointers in the half.
The Eagles scored the first seven points of the second half and never looked back. OC's lead swelled to as many as 28 points three times in the final half as all 12 players in uniform saw game action.
Taylor had 10 rebounds to go with the 21 points for his first double-double of 2008-09. David Jackson added 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc. Crocker finished with 13 points.
OC resumes play on Monday night at home against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Sooner Athletic Conference opener will tip at 8 p.m. The Lady Eagles and Lady Rangers will start at 6 p.m.
