In a tumultuous finish, Oklahoma Christian came away with an 82-77 overtime victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha Jan. 15.
WIth the score tied at 68-68 with six seconds remaining, USAO forced a turnover and the Drover's Keith Miller hit a basket with 2 seconds remaining. However, USAO's bench emptied onto the court in celebration which drew a technical call by the officials.
Senior Jarred Merrill sunk two free throws with 0.3 on the clock to tie the game 70-70 and force an overtime. Merrill scored six points in the extra period and junior Brady Page nailed down the win with four for four shooting from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds. It was the 16th win for the Eagles against a single loss and raises their conference record to 4-1.
Merrill, after a slow start, finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season and 48th of his career. Sophomore Micah Miles had a record tying performance with 10 blocked shots, matching the 1973 record of Reed Johnson.
Sophomore Charles Baldwin connected on five, three-point field goals, including two which brought the Eagles back from a 60-65 deficit in the final two minutes. He finished with 20 points, followed by Page with 15 and Keith Harris with 11.
