Soccer teams lose road games

Sept. 15, 2007 - The Oklahoma Christian soccer teams each suffered road losses on Saturday. The women fell 2-0 in San Diego, Calif. to No. 4 Point Loma Nazarene while the Eagles dropped a wild 5-3 decision at Bellevue (Neb.).

The men's contest saw Bellevue jump out to an early 2-0 lead after a pair of first-half goals by Jon Pagel. The first came just 47 seconds into the game.

OC got a goal of its own 38 minutes into the first half when Cristian Fernandes fired a penalty kick into the left side of the goal to make the score 2-1.

The second half opened with another Pagel strike to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-1. After a Jhonathon Rico goal, the lead was 4-1, but the Eagles cut the lead in half when Fernandes connected again off an assist from Ryan Frampton in the 84th minute to make it 4-2.

Less than a minute later, Bellevue again put a goal on the board when Trevor Eastman scored off a penalty kick. OC continued to fight, however, and Preston Okwuonu netted the Eagles' third goal of the night in the game's 87th minute.

The loss dropped OC to 1-3-2 as they prepare for their next game on Monday, Sept. 24 in Tyler, Texas, against Texas College.

The women's tour of Southern California concluded Saturday night in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of No. 4 Point Loma Nazarene.

Defense was the name of the game in the first half, as the Lady Eagles kept the Sea Lions off the board en route to a 0-0 halftime draw.

The scoreless tie remained until the game's 67th minute when PLNU's Amanda Rowand scored an unassisted goal to make the count 1-0. The Sea Lions provided some insurance seven minutes later when Lily Rainey put home a shot to put PLNU ahead 2-0.

The score would stand as the Lady Eagles fell to 2-4. PLNU moved to 4-1.

Stephanie Duncan took three shots in the game, one on goal, but was unable to convert any chances.

OC is in action next Tuesday, Sept. 18 in Plainview, Texas, against Sooner Athletic Conference foe Wayland Baptist.
