EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma Christian men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Southern Nazarene at Eagle Soccer Field, despite outshooting the Crimson Storm 15-9. The loss moves the Eagles to 3-3 on the season.
Southern Nazarene opened the scoring in the 19th minute, but Oklahoma Christian responded before halftime. Tyler Ackah-Wheatcroft found the back of the net in the 34th minute off an assist from Igor Caballero, leveling the match at 1-1.
The Eagles continued to pressure following the equalizer, creating several opportunities late in the opening half. Luis Alvis and Kenzo Shabazz-Edwards each had chances, while Ackah-Wheatcroft nearly added another before the break.
Southern Nazarene regained the lead with just 5 seconds remaining in the first half, sending Oklahoma Christian into halftime trailing 2-1.
OC pushed for an equalizer throughout the second half and held the Crimson Storm scoreless over the final 45 minutes. The Eagles generated seven second-half shots, with Hudson Jacobs putting a late attempt on goal in the 88th minute, but SNU goalkeeper Aimar Aramendia made the save.
Oklahoma Christian finished the match with a 15-9 advantage in shots, while both teams placed three attempts on goal. Shabazz-Edwards recorded four shots, Caballero added three and Alvis led the Eagles with five attempts. Dante Caffaro played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save.
The Eagles return to Eagle Soccer Field on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they host Oklahoma Panhandle State at 6 p.m. CT.
