OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Mar. 24, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team added two more wins to their total on Thursday as they sealed both victories in their double header against Rogers State University (Okla.) winning the first game 1-0 and taking the second 11-3.
Game 1
Following a quick no score first inning, the Lady Eagles put a run on the board in the second to lead the Lady Hillcats 1-0 heading into the third.
Kayla Jennings led off the inning for the Lady Eagles with a double to left field. After a Taylor Renshaw bunt and advancing to third, Michelle Miller got on base from an error that allowed Jennings home for the score.
A quick game followed as neither squad sent any runners home through the remaining innings, leaving the 1-0 victory to the Lady Eagles.
Renshaw led the Lady Eagles from the plate with 2-for-3 hitting, while Ashley Paxton pitched through the entire seven innings to claim the win while only allowing four hits and tallying eight strikeouts.
Game 2
The Lady Eagles took the first score in game two, again with a single run in the bottom of the second. Jennings again made the first score and did so on an error following a single hit by Jade Tallbull.
In the top of the third, the Lady Hillcats sent home three runners to take a two score lead over OC at 3-1. In spite of such, the Lady Eagles responded with another run to close the Rogers State margin to a single run.
After holding the Lady Hillcats scoreless in the top of the fourth, the Lady Eagles utilized the bottom of the inning to put up six runs to take the lead by a five-run margin at 8-3.
Renshaw headed home first on a single from Leigh Leonard. With the bases still loaded, a walk to first by Deidre Chatigny sent home Tallbull. Davee Croy followed up Chatigny's walk with a single up the middle to drive in Leonard and Lauren Walk. Another single followed directly thereafter from Jennings to send Chatigny and Croy across the plate.
In the bottom of the fifth, Walk scored for the Lady Eagles on a single from Leonard before a Chatigny single sent home pinch runner Megan Bray who was followed home by Sarah Peoples on an error.
The three runs in the fifth put OC up by eight runs at 11-3 to end the game early with the Lady Eagles taking the run rule victory.
Leonard went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and tallied two RBI while also taking the win from the pitcher's circle. Leonard pitched all five innings and tallied seven strikeouts.
Croy, Jennings, Tallbull, and Walk all went 2-for-3 at the plate while Croy tallied three RBI and Jennings recorded two.
The two wins put the Lady Eagles on an 11-game winning streak as they carry a 26-7 season record and a 9-3 record for conference play. The OC softball squad will stay home for their next matchup as they host Bethany College (Okla.) on Saturday in a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
