WACO, Texas (April 12, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team stood up to No. 23 NCAA division I Baylor University on Monday as they took away a split losing their first game 9-1 and responding with a 4-0 shutout in the second.
Game 1
The Lady Eagles struggled to get on base in the first game, as they were only able to tally three hits against the Baylor women.
Baylor took the early lead in the bottom of the second with two scores and followed with another in the second inning to lead 3-0 heading into the third.
OC scored their lone run of the game in the third inning when Taylor Renshaw made it home on a single from Michelle Miller.
The Lady Eagles trailed 3-1 through the top of the fifth before the Baylor women registered five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. After scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth, the game was ended 9-1 with a run rule.
Miller, Amber Canady, and Christin Dobbs all recorded hits for the Lady Eagles with Miller earning one RBI.
Game 2
The Lady Eagles held firm in the field during the second game as Caitlin Matthies pitched a runless game against the Lady Bears. No team was able to score until the Lady Eagles put up three runs in the fifth to take the lead.
Ashley Calles was the first to cross the plate as she did so on a fielding error after as single by Dobbs. Lauren Walk and Dobbs followed home with a two RBI single from DaVee Croy to give the Lady Eagles a 3-0 advantage.
Another scoreless inning followed before the Lady Eagles tacked on one more score with a run home by Walk on a wild pitch.
OC held the Lady Bears scoreless through the bottom of the seventh to register the 4-0 victory over the No. 23 NCAA division I team.
Walk and Calles both went 2-for-3 at the plate scoring two runs and one run, respectively. Croy and Dobbs each had 2-for-4 success batting while Croy tallied two RBI.
Matthies threw two strikeouts against the Lady Bears and allowed five hits and no scores.
The Lady Eagles currently hold a 20-21 record on the season and remain 9-13 for conference play.
OC will play at No. 13 Saint Gregory's University on Wednesday in makeup double header starting at 1 p.m.
