Lady Eagles break Crimson Storm winning streak

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Mar. 31, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team split their double header with No. 10 Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) on Thursday as they took game one 4-3 and dropped the second 13-3.

Game 1

The Lady Eagles got things started right in the first game against the Crimson Storm as they put up two runs in the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Following a single by Deidre Chatigny, Davee Croy doubled deep to send in Chatigny for the score. Two batters later, Croy headed home from third on a single from Taylor Renshaw.

Southern Nazarene responded in the second, however, as they tacked on three runs to take a one-run advantage at 3-2.

A defensive battle ensued thereafter as three scoreless innings followed before the Lady Eagles drove home two more runs in the sixth to regain the lead heading into the final inning.

With the bases loaded, Chatigny drove a single to right field to send in Lauren Walk and pinch runner Megan Bray for two scores.

The Crimson Storm were unable to respond in the seventh leaving the 4-3 victory to Lady Eagles.

Chatigny led at the plate with 3-for-4 hitting, two RBI, and a run scored. Sarah Peoples and Kayla Jennings helped out going 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively.

Ashley Paxton sealed her 11th win on the season from the circle pitching the complete seven innings and recorded seven strikeouts.

Game 2

SNU had vengeance in mind heading into the second game as the Crimson Storm pulled to a 3-0 run with two runs in the second and another in the third.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Eagles struck back in retaliation putting up three runs of their own to tie the game up at 3-3. Renshaw made the play for the Lady Eagles with a three run homer over the center fence to send in Chatigny and Croy for the tie.

In spite of such, the Crimson storm responded right back with a four-run inning in the fifth to gap the Lady Eagles with a 7-3 lead that ran into the sixth.

Neither team sent runners home in the sixth, but a stir-crazy SNU squad put up another six runs, including a grand slam, to advance to a 13-3 lead. The Lady Eagles were unable to respond in the bottom of the inning giving the Crimson Storm the victory.

Renshaw led at the plate for OC with 1-for-3 hitting, three RBI, and a run scored.

With the split, the Lady Eagles now carry a 30-9 season record and sit at 15-10 for conference play. The OC softball team will return to play on April 9th, when they head to the road to play Oklahoma Baptist University in a double header at 1 p.m.
