Lady Eagles tally two over SNU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (April 10, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team got things together to break a six game losing streak with 11-4 and 12-11 wins over Southern Nazarene University in Saturday's doubleheader.

Game 1

The Lady Eagles took no time getting on the board in the first game against the Crimson Storm as they scored six runs over the first two innings. Holding Southern Nazarene from scoring, the Lady Eagles put up a 6-0 lead heading into the third inning.

Christin Dobbs was the first to score when Amber Canady hit a triple to left field. Canady later scored after a ground out from Amy Urbanovsky. DaVee Croy took the final score of the first inning on a passed ball to give the Lady Eagles a total of three runs.

In the second inning, the Lady Eagles scored all three runs on two outs. Dobbs was the first to score once again and did so off a Canady single. A dropped fly hit from Urbanovsky sent both Canady and Croy home for two additional scores.

The Crimson Storm bounced back in the third inning, however, as they scored four runs to put them within two of the Lady Eagles.

Despite giving up four runs, the Lady Eagles held SNU scoreless the remainder of the game as they put up five more runs between the fourth and fifth innings.

Croy scored a run for the Lady Eagles in the fourth on a single from Kayla Jennings to make the score 7-4.

In the fifth inning, Deidre Chatigny was the first to score for OC as she headed home from a Dobbs single. Canady, next at bat, hit a double to drive in Ashley Calles, Taylor Renshaw, and Dobbs to make the score 11-4.

Canady led from the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 while scoring two runs and tallying five RBI. Croy followed with a perfect 3-for-3 performance and scored three runs..

Caitlan Matthies pitched a complete seven innings and tallied five strikeouts and two earned runs.

Game 2

The Lady Eagles pulled out a second win from the Crimson Storm in the final inning of the game as Calles hit a single with two outs to send Jennings in for the win.

OC started off with another three run inning to take the early lead over SNU. All the runs came from a Jennings homer that drove in Canady and Croy.

The Lady Eagles added another run in the second when Dobbs scored off a Canady single to give OC a 4-0 lead heading into the third.

The Crimson Storm exploded in the fourth, however, as they put up nine runs against the Lady Eagles to jump to a 9-4 lead.

The Lady Eagles continued to score despite a struggled inning as the tacked up three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Croy and Jennings both scored for OC on a double from Urbanovsky who scored herself on a double from Chatigny.

Trailing 9-7, the Lady Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs. Renshaw and Dobbs both scored from a double by Croy who scored two batters later when Urbanovsky singled up the middle to put the Lady Eagles on top 10-9.

The game came down to the final inning when SNU put up two runs to take a one run lead at 11-10. Despite the deficit, the Lady Eagles managed to score two runs with two outs on the board to take the lead. Canady and Jennings scored the runs for OC to leave the Lady Eagles with a 12-11 victory.

Chatigny hit a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two RBI while both Croy and Jennings went 2-for-3 with three runs. Croy tallied two RBI and Jennings three RBI.

Leigh Leonard registered the win pitching a complete game and tallying six strikeouts.

The Lady Eagles are now 19-20 overall and 9-13 for conference play.

OC will head to Waco, Texas to play NCAA division I Baylor University on Monday at 3 p.m.
