Softball wins out over Bethany College

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Mar. 26, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team continued their 13-game winning streak on Saturday as they won both games of their double header against Bethany College (Kan.) taking the first game 5-3 and the second 9-1.

Game 1

In the first game, the Lady Eagles were the first to score runs putting up two in the third. With two outs and Deidre Chatigny on first, Davee Croy smashed a home run for two scores leave OC up 2-0 heading into the fourth.

Bethany responded in the top of the fourth with two runs of their own to tie things up at 2-2.

The Lady Eagles retaliated in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs to take a 5-2 advantage going into the sixth. Sarah Peoples headed home first on a bunt play from Chatigny to score for the Lady Eagles. Four at bats later, Jade Tallbull took the plate to hit a single to left field driving in Chatigny and Croy to put the Lady Eagles up 5-2.

In the top of the sixth, BU responded with a single run, but the Lady Eagles held them scoreless through the remainder of the game to seal the victory.

Croy hit a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI while Chatigny made gains as well with 3-for-4 hitting, two runs and an RBI. Kimberly Cusher tallied the win from the pitcher's circle throwing all seven innings and recording five strikeouts.

Game 2

The Lady Eagles stepped up ready to take the plate once again in game two as OC put up a 5-0 lead before BU ever scored.

In the bottom of the second, Lauren Walk connected on a double to left field sending home Kayla Jennings for the score. An error on the play allowed Michelle Miller to take home from third for a two run play putting OC up 2-0.

The following inning, the Lady Eagles put up three more scores with Peoples leading things off with a home run over the right fence. Directly thereafter, Chatigny single to get on base and two batters later was batted home on a two run homer from Jennings to put the Lady Eagles up 5-0 going into the fourth.

A quick fourth inning followed, as neither squad was able to score with OC only tallying one hit. In the top of the fifth, Bethany got on the board with a single run to trail the Lady Eagles by four runs.

In the bottom of the inning, Croy got things going for the Lady Eagles with a first pitch homer to add to OC's total for the day. Later in the inning, Miller doubled to right field to send Jennings home for a score. On the next at bat, Walk reached base on an error that simultaneously allowed Taylor Renshaw to make it home. Following Walk, Leigh Leonard hit a ground out to short that sent home Miller to end the game in a 9-1 run rule victory for the Lady Eagles.

This time Jennings secured a perfect game at the plate with 3-for-3 succes, three runs scored, and two RBI. Chatigny, Miller, and Walk all went 2-for-3 while Walk recorded two RBI in the process.

Ashley Paxton pitched all five innings for the Lady Eagles to seal the win while allowing only three hits and making four strikeouts.

With the wins, the Lady Eagles advance to 28-7 overall while still maintaining a 9-3 conference record. OC softball will return to play on Tuesday as they head across town to play Oklahoma City University in a double header beginning at 5 p.m.
