SHAWNEE, Okla. (April 22, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team suffered a 3-1 loss in the first game of Thursday's double header against Oklahoma Baptist University before claiming the second 7-3.
Game 1
Both teams ran in to trouble getting runners across home plate in the first game as neither team scored until the fifth inning. It the bottom of the inning, the Lady Bison tacked up three runs to give OC a blow from which they were unable to recover.
In a three run hole heading into the sixth, the Lady Eagles attempted to make their stand, however, were only able to send one runner in for the score leaving OC at a 3-1 deficit.
DaVee Croy scored the lone run for the Lady Eagles heading home from second base when Amy Urbanovsky singled out to right field.
The Lady Eagles were unable to get on the board in the seventh leaving 3-1 decision to the Lady Bison.
Taylor Renshaw hit a perfect 2-for-2 while Deidre Chatigny went 2-for-3. Urbanovsky and Croy each chipped in with 1-for-3 performances.
Game 2
In game two, the Lady Eagles kicked it into high gear as they scored runs in each of the first six innings as they held Oklahoma Baptist scoreless all the while.
Croy hit a single in the first to send Christin Dobbs home for the RBI while Chatigny scored in the second on an error that allowed Lauren Walk to reach first base.
The Lady Eagles padded their lead even further to 4-0 in the third when Croy hit a two run homer that sent home Amber Canady.
In the fourth, Renshaw scored a single run for the Lady Eagles on an error by short stop making it home from second base.
Renshaw drove in Urbanovsky with a single in the fifth to make the score 6-0.
The Lady Eagles scored their final run in the sixth when Kayla Jennings singled out to left with the bases loaded to send home Dobbs for the score.
Amid a 7-0 advantage heading into the final inning, the Lady Bison made a dent in the lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
OBU's rally was not enough, however, as the Lady Eagles recorded the win with a 7-3 decision.
Croy shined at the plate hitting 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored as she lead the Lady Eagles' batting. Chatigny added 2-for-4 hitting with a run scored.
Leigh Leonard pitched the complete game with a no hitter through 6.2 innings. Despite earning three runs in the seventh, Leonard only allowed four hits and recorded three strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles carry a 22-27 season record and are 11-19 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OC will play Rogers State University (Okla.) on the road on Saturday to continue conference play. The double header is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
