Softball drops two at Gulf Coast Invite

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (Mar. 12, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team suffered two losses on the second day of the 2011 Gulf Coast Invitational falling 8-3 to William Woods University (Mo.) and 4-1 to Auburn University-Montgomery on Saturday.

Game 1

In the first game against William Woods, the Lady Eagles gave up two runs in the first and three runs in both the second and third innings to trail the WWU women 8-0 heading into the fourth.

The Lady Eagles held WWU scoreless the remainder of the game, however, they were unable to make up the difference.

In the bottom of the fourth, OC registered three runs to get on the board. Deidre Chatigny was the first to score from a Davee Croy double to deep. Lauren Walk followed home on the next at bat when Kayla Jennings connected on a single. Two batters later, Tallbull took the plate to hit another single for the Lady Eagles sending home Croy for the final score.

With the OC women unable to score in the last three innings, WWU sealed the 8-3 victory.

Walk led the Lady Eagles at the plate going 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Game 2

OC took on Auburn University-Montgomery for game two on Saturday, who took the lead first with two runs in the second. Following two scoreless innings, the AUM women recorded two more in the fifth to lead the Lady Eagles 4-0 heading into the sixth.

Unable the get on the board in the sixth inning, the OC women tallied a single run in the seventh before tallying three outs to end the game leaving the 4-1 victory to Auburn.

Taylor Renshaw scored the lone run for the Lady Eagles on a full count homer to also lead at the plate with 1-for-3 hitting, a RBI, and one run scored.

With the losses, the Lady Eagles carry a 15-7 season record and will return to the final day of the tournament on Sunday.
