Softball takes away three from tournament

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas (Feb. 21, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team had a successful showing at the Saint Gregory's Invitational tournament winning three games out of four on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Eagles' first game was played against Bacone College (Okla.) where OC came away with a 7-0 win against the Lady Warriors.

OC tallied a run in the second inning and then tacked on six more in the fifth to take a blowout 7-0 shutout victory. The Lady Eagles saw big performances from Jade Tallbull who went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a homer, and registered two runs and two RBI.

Davee Croy helped out driving in runners as well with a home run on 1-for-2 hitting to tally two RBI and score a run herself. Kimberly Cusher pitched five innings and recorded eight strikeouts for OC.

For OC's second game on Friday, the Lady Eagles recorded another dominating win against Langston University (Okla.) with a 9-1 victory.

The Lady Eagles quickly pushed into the lead with three runs in the first and added another in the third to lead 4-0. Both squads tallied a run in the fourth before the Lady Eagles brought home four runners in the fifth to end the game with a run rule.

Deidre Chatigny made big contributions at the plate with 3-for-4 hitting with two runs scored and two RBI. Lauren Walk and Croy both added two hits and two RBI to the mix as well. Tallbull recorded perfect 3-for-3 hitting and scored two runs in the process as well.

On Saturday, the Lady Eagles first played against No. 12 ranked Belhaven University (Miss.) to fall in a narrow 2-1 defeat.

After playing through four scoreless innings, the Lady Eagles got on the board first with a run in the top of the fifth. However, Belhaven tallied a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to take the 2-1 win.

OC finished out the tournament on Saturday against Friends University (Kan.) taking a 4-2 victory.

Friends scored first in the first inning with a single run, but the Lady Eagles responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take the 2-1 lead. After two scoreless innings, Friends tallied another score in the fourth to tie things up. Again OC responded with two runs of their own to finish out the game with the 4-2 win.

After the tournament, the Lady Eagles are 3-3 on the season and still hold a 0-2 record for conference play. OC will stay on the road for their next double header as they head to Alva, Okla. to play Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Tuesday starting at 1 p.m.
